based in Cape Town, South Africa

Dr. Noakes is a medical doctor who long time ago decided that he preferred exercise physiology and sports medicine to usual clinical medicine. He presently directs a large research group of post-graduate scientists in the exercise science. The goal of group is an understanding of  the neural integration of the physiological response to exercise.

Dr. Noakes other posts include a Professorship or Exercise Science and Sports Medicine at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He is also a Director of the Medical Research Council (MRC) / UCT Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine and an Executive Co-Director of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa.
